To the Editor: Dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome (DHS) is a dapsone-induced T–cell mediated delayed type of hypersensitivity, characterized by fever, rash, lymphadenopathy, and hepatic function abnormalities.1Richardus J.H. Smith T.C. Increased incidence in leprosy reactions to dapsone after introduction multidrug therapy.Lepr Rev. 1989; 60: 267-273PubMed Google Scholar The diagnosis DHS traditionally based on criteria proposed Richardus Smith.1Richardus However, remains challenge clinical practice due difficulty distinguishing from other drug-induced (DHRs), concurrent infections, or underlying diseases. enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISpot) method quantifying release antigen-specific cell cytokines has been widely used DHR culprit drugs coadministered drugs.2Porebski G. A Case of Sulfasalazine-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome Confirmed by Enzyme-Linked Immunospot Assay
A 24-year-old male with a history of spondyloarthropathy presented with high fever, cervical lymphadenopathy and generalized maculopapular rash. He was treated with prednisolone for chronic uveitis before being switched to sulfasalazine 3 weeks prior to admission. Laboratory findings revealed marked leukocytosis with frequent atypical lymphocytes. Sulfasalazine was discontinued and the etiology...
متن کاملDapsone hypersensitivity syndrome with myocarditis.
Drug hypersensitivity with myocarditis is known to occur with many drugs especially with antiepileptics, sulpha-compounds and daposne. Dapsone (4, 4 diaminodiphenyl sulphone) induced hypersensitivity is known to occur in about 2% of leprosy patients on treatment and an incidence of 1.66% in non-leprosy patients. We report this rare case of dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome in a girl on dapsone ...
متن کاملSevere dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome.
Dapsone, a potent antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory compound, is mainly used in the treatment of leprosy and a variety of blistering skin diseases. It may cause a severe adverse drug reaction with multiorgan involvement known as dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome. We report the case of a 21-year-old female patient with dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome. The clinical presentation mimicked a vir...
متن کاملOur experience with enzyme-linked immunospot assay in the laboratory diagnostics of lyme borreliosis
Background Lyme borreliosis (LB) is multisystem infectious disease with various clinical manifestations. In Europe, LB is caused by gram-negative spirochetal bacteria of the complex Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. The most important for human pathogenicity are B. garinii, B. afzelii and B.burgdorferi sensu stricto. Indirect laboratory diagnostics of LB is based on serological methods such as E...
متن کاملAccuracy of the Bronchoalveolar Lavage Enzyme-Linked Immunospot Assay for the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Assessing of local immune response may improve the accuracy of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) diagnosis. Many studies have investigated diagnosing PTB based on enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assay of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, but the results have been inconclusive. We meta-analyzed the available evidences on overall diagnostic performance of ELISPOT assay of BAL fluid for diagnosing...
